A Day on The River Loop: World Fair Edition

Fall weekends are made for exploring, and this one is extra special. We’ve mapped out a curated itinerary that takes you from river views to pastries, to a once-in-a-lifetime celebration of global cultures — all right here on The River Loop.

MORNING

Begin your day with a walk across the Upper Black Eddy–Milford Bridge. The views of the Delaware River are breathtaking this time of year, with early autumn light bouncing off the water and a breeze that reminds you why we love these towns so much.

From there, pop into Chocolate in the Oven for morning pastries. This little Milford gem is filled with warm aromas, indulgent treats, and exactly the right fuel for a day of exploring.

Afternoon: Hunterdon County World Fair

This Saturday, September 20 at noon, Milford transforms for the very first Hunterdon County World Fair. From 12–6 PM, the streets will come alive with:

  • Live performances from around the world

  • Authentic foods and drinks inspired by global traditions

  • 50 unique vendors and artisans representing 50 countries

  • A vibrant, one-of-a-kind community celebration

This event expands on the beloved traditions of Descendants Brewing, but with a new global twist — celebrating heritage, artisanship, and the cultures that bring our communities together. For the first time, Hunterdon County is bringing the World Fair to life… and you won’t want to miss it.

And here’s the fun part: The River Loop will be there as a vendor! Be sure to stop by our table, say hello, and pick up inspiration for your next adventure! RIVER LOOP MEMBER PERK: Make your day at the World Fair even sweeter! Buy $50 in drink tickets, show your River Loop Member ID, and get five extra tickets — just for being a member! Cheers to global flavors and a little extra sparkle along The Loop. Not a River Loop member yet? Join for free here.

EVENING

As the fair winds down, settle into an unforgettable evening at Canal House Station. Housed in a beautifully restored train station, the restaurant feels like stepping into a friend’s home — if that friend happened to be a world-class chef with a love for seasonality and hospitality. Canal House is celebrated for its elegant yet unpretentious cooking, capturing the true spirit of the river towns: refined, soulful, and deeply rooted in community. It’s the perfect way to close out a day rich with flavor, culture, and connection.

STAY

To turn the day into a full weekend escape, consider checking in just across the bridge at Bridgeton House on the Delaware. This luxury boutique hotel is beautifully situated on the riverbank and decorated in a sophisticated, artistic style. Think sumptuous beds, luxury linens, fireplaces, whirlpool tubs, private balconies, French doors, and river views that make you want to linger a little longer. It’s a stay that feels both indulgent and restorative — the ideal ending to your River Loop adventure.

From riverside mornings to global celebrations, a Michelin-worthy dinner, and an overnight in riverside luxury, this itinerary captures the best of autumn weekends along The River Loop.
